Regina Bakhteeva joined the UN World Food Programme Caribbean Multi-Country Office in January 2022 as the first international staff to be based in Port of Spain to coordinate WFP engagement with various entities and stakeholders in Trinidad and Tobago. In her previous assignment (2017 – 2021), Ms Bakhteeva served with the United Nations in Sudan where she led the emergency pillar of humanitarian response in WFP operations. During 2013 – 2017 Ms Bakhteeva worked with WFP team in Yemen. She started her career with WFP in Rome in external relations department in 2012.

Before moving to the UN, Ms Bakhteeva worked with the Australian Embassy in Moscow as a Research Officer on political and economic issues. A Russian national, Ms Bakhteeva has an academic background in international relations and diplomacy having earned her Master’s degree at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University) in 2007.
