Bio
Loreto Duffy-Mayers was born in Dublin, Ireland and has lived in Barbados for38 years. She is one of the leading experts in Caribbean sustainable tourism,
energy and environment and has worked extensively in the region. She has worked for the past 30 years in the area of Sustainable Development focussing primarily on tourism, energy, environment and gender and has won several awards in these fields. She has organized and presented at over 30 training workshops and/or conference sessions and has made over 50 presentations at tourism and energy conferences. She has conducted walk throughs and surveys in energy efficiency in over 120 hotels in the Caribbean, and market assessments on energy efficiency and renewable energy in the region.

She led the United Nations Caribbean Cooling Initiative (CCOOL) in the Caribbean and is currently an advisor with the Private Financing Network. She was formerly the Regional Programme Manager for the Caribbean Hotel Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Action (CHENACT) Programme which won the CREF 2018 award for the best Energy Efficiency Programme in the Caribbean. The objective was to promote Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in small and medium sized hotels in the Caribbean.

She held the position of Environmental Manager in several award-winning Green Hotels, including Coconut Court Resort, Casuarina Beach Club (Barbados) and the Almond Resorts (3 hotels in Barbados and 2 in St. Lucia). She is a board member of the Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism and the newly formed OTEA (Ocean Thermal Energy Association).
